I am a consultant paediatrician, neonatologist and paediatric gastroenterologist with more than 30 years of professional clinical and academic experience both nationally and internationally, having worked, conducted research and taught undergraduate and postgraduate students and health professionals at universities and paediatric hospitals both in Germany and abroad. During these years, I have gathered considerable clinical, training, teaching, research, managerial, and leadership experience and skills. My work is firmly based on the principles of Christian faith and ethics.

My special clinical areas of interest are neonatology / paediatric intensive care, infectious diseases, gastroenterology, endocrinology, cardiology, and global child health. Besides all common paediatric diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, I perform all kinds of ultrasonography, echocardiography, and endoscopy. During several years at a large rural hospital in Tanzania, I was in charge of the paediatric and neonatal department and the numerous mobile mother-and-child-health clinics in the area. In Germany, I have been head of department for more than eighteen years now.

For several years, I have lectured on paediatrics and neonatology at the universities of Erlangen and Münster/Germany, also on several topics in global child health at the universities of Witten/Herdecke and Münster/Germany in under- and postgraduate courses, and am a guest lecturer at the medical school of the CUHAS University in Mwanza and the University of Dodoma, both Tanzania. From April 2019 to September 2021, I was appointed to the professorship of paediatrics and child health at the University of Applied Health Sciences in Bochum/Germany. In addition, I have conducted research and published on basic and clinical aspects of paediatrics, neonatology, infectious diseases, paediatric endocrinology, global neonatal and child health. I am a reviewer to several journals and WHO. In addition, I have a strong interest in Christian aspects of health care and have published on this topic as well.

As a member of the executive committee of the German Society of Tropical Paediatrics and International Child Health, I am currently involved in international work on clinical, preventive and health system aspects of neonatal and child health. To substantiate my expertise in international health, I completed postgraduate studies for a Master in International Health.
